Establisd
in 1785, Canada's first High School. It currently has a population of 1850
students. Since 1996 it has won the N.B. Provincial High School
Basketball Championships 8 times- 1996-1999-2000-2001-2002-2003-2004 and 2005.
This years team is a young team. There are four seniors along with three grade
elevens, one grade ten and four grade nines. The coaches are Steve O'Rourke and
Rick Cotter. The team is managed by Bill Flann

The Woodstock High School
Thunder women’s basketball team has a 26-8 win/loss record thus far this
season. The team carries a 10-1 record in South West AA Conference play which is
good enough for a first place tie with Carleton North; however, Carleton North
is ahead in the tie breaker. The line-up features four players who played on
provincial teams last summer: Amy Andow (Canada Games), Danielle Moffatt (Canada
Games), Heather Atherton (U-16), and Jocelyn Clark (U-15 Developmental). To date
the team has attended tournaments hosted by
Miramichi
Valley
,
Woodstock
, Tantramar, Fredericton High and Carleton North. The Thunder reached the final
in each tournament and secured wins in
Woodstock
and at Tantramar. With Regionals scheduled in two weeks,
Woodstock
looks to put their invitation to the DairyTown Classic to good use in getting
all players ready for the challenges that lay ahead.

Halifax Grammar School is a private school from grades primary to 12, located in
the south end of Halifax near St. Mary’s University. Enrolment is approximately
525 students and an International Bacclaureate diploma is offered to all high
school students. Basketball is extremely popular with
eight teams representing the school at the junior high and senior high levels.
This season’s version of the HGS Gryphon's is a nice mix of returnees led by
captains Talia Orr and Hillary Woodside, who was selected to attend the 2005
All-Nike Camp. Lauren O’Connor, Carly Gurr , Katie Bethune and Shelby Weaver
round out a solid group of veterans. Newcomers Shylanda Saunders, Justine
Colley, and Alex McKenna were members of the Nova Scotia Under 15 Team which won
a bronze medal at Nationals and Caitlin Ulrich transferred from Halifax West
after spending the summer with the Canada Games Team which also won bronze.
Ellen Crosby and Katie McGarrigle round out a very talented group of newcomers.

Located in the suburbs of Québec city, The Séminaire Saint-François is a private
high school of catholic faith that offers co-education to 1200 students. The
school is sports oriented with varsity programs in Basketball, Football, Hockey,
Soccer and Rugby. More than half of the student body is involved in one of
these sports in all three levels of competition. The Basketball program itself
fields 18 teams, boys and girls. The school prides itself in its academic and
athletic achievements.
This year’s edition of the girl’s basketball team is probably the best of the
past ten years. The team relies on 12 talented players with a solid blend of
juniors and seniors. The team hasn’t lost this year. One of the top players,
Catherine Groleau, at 15 years old, is a member of the Quebec provincial team
that competed in the Canada games. Stephanie Frenette-Blais and Sabrina
Stambouli are also established players that lead the team with talent and
determination. The team fines a lot of strength and consistency in it depth and
maturity.

The Colonel
Gray Colonels come to the Dairy Town as defending Prince
Edward
Island champions, and having won 14 of the last 16 provincial
championships. They are prohibitive favorites to repeat as the Island's
top team
again this year. At this stage of the season Colonel Gray has
a record
of 9-5, with tough losses to Fredericton (2), Roncalli (1),
Queen
Elizabeth (1) and Horton (1). As usual the Colonels have
excellent size with seven players at 5'10'' or above, and stress the
defensive end of the floor. The team is
excited about their return to the Dairy Town after a long
absence
and hope to be a major factor.

Sussex Regional High School has an enrollment of approximately 950 students from
grade 9 – 12. Over the years the school has competed at both the AA and AAA
level. The team has once again under gone a coaching
change from the previous year with Mike Maxwell taking over from Doug Doney. The team
captains, Hilary Cummings and Ellen Watters, both in grade 12, are two players
to watch for during the season. Hilary has a very good outside shot and has good
pull up jump shot. She works very hard, is very competitive along with being a
team leader. She is the teams’ leading scorer. Ellen
is very athletic and has a lot of speed. She is a good defender and works hard
to do things right. She adds team leadership and spirit.

The
Black Kats return five seniors and one junior from last season's AAA Provincial
Championship team. Led by Co-captains Andy Wright and Elliot Thompson, senior
starter
Ryan MacPherson,
Manny Wilby, Jack Piercy and football Captain Justin Conn, the Kats
have
started the season with a 14-0 run including tournament championships at the Leo
Hayes
Lion's Den and the Irving Hoop Classic in Moncton. The juniors, Brad LeBritton,
Geoff
Frame, Luke Dolan, and Mark Hubbard all have solid Junior Varsity experience.
Sophomore David Dolan also moves up from Junior Varsity and has stepped right
into a
starting role.
Cameron Clark continues the strong tradition of talented freshmen on
the
Varsity team.

The
Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf was founded in 1928 and is located in the Côte-des-Neiges
district in Montréal, across from the St-Justine Children Hospital and the
Université de Montréal. The school population is about 800 students. It's a male
only high school from grade 7 to 10 and is open to girls in grade 11. Among the
notables alumni are former Canada premier Pierre E. Trudeau and former Québec
premier Robert Bourassa.
The Collège
Jean-de-Brébeuf was one the first francophone high school to have competitive
basketball back in the early 1960's. Brébeuf is now established as one of the
premier basketball program in the province, having won 19 provincial
championships in the bantam, midget and juvenile AAA division since 1989. 5
former players have gone on to play in the NCAA, most recently Bernard Côté at
Northwestern University, Pierre-Marie Altidor-Cespedes at Gonzaga University and
Maxime Paulhus-Gosselin at Davidson University.
The program is
coming off an unprecedented three-peat of the juvenile AAA division, having won
in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The 2005-2006 juvenile team is counting on two veterans,
Olivier Bouchard (5’9 guard) and Simon Mercier (6’5 forward), to lead it to a
fourth provincial championship in a row. The team has 5 other returning players
who took part in the 2005 edition of the DTC and 6 rookies, including 6’6
shot-blocking center Vincent Lanctôt Fortier, who will be experiencing the
thrill of this tournament for the first time.
The players and
the coaches are once more looking forward to taking part in the 2006 edition of
the Dairy Town Classic, a tournament that is head and shoulders above everything
organized in Québec.

Woodstock is located in the heart of the Saint John River Valley and is New
Brunswick’s first incorporated town. Woodstock High School was first opened in
1912 and was rebuilt in its present location in 1976. Its present enrollment is
around 750 students. The basketball program has a long history of success in
both men’s and women’s basketball and the men’s program has captured six
provincial championship banners during the history of the Final 12 at the Aitken
University Centre. The Thunder are the defending AA Boys Champions and return
four starters from last years team.
The Thunder, who play out of the
Western Conference, are led by a group of seniors who have played together
throughout high school. Returning starters include starting point guard Lance
Taylor, shooting guard Dan McLeod, 6’4” forward Shelby Nicholson, and 6’2”
forward Justin Poliquin. Other returning players from last year’s provincial
champions are forward Lee Kinney, guard Kyle Sharpe, and grade 11 forward
Sheldon Dow.

Valley High School is situated in the suburban
community of Quispamsis that has a population of 13,757. The student
population was 1,133 as of September 30. KVHS was recognized by Mcleans magazine
in August 2005 as the
second
best academic high school in Canada. KVHS has won the national
quiz
show Smart Ask and placed in the top five schools in Canada in
national
quiz competitions in each of the last five years. The school
was
recently recognized for the inclusion of special needs students witha national
award. KVHS has a complete range of interscholastic sports. This year
KVHS has
won the Provincial Senior Girls' soccer championship and the
Provincial Championship in the 10 Man Football League. The performing
arts
have a strong tradition as well. There is a play each fall and a
spring
musical that involves nearly half of the student population.
The
student body addresses many community awareness and charity
programs
by donating approximately $23,000.00 to local, provincial,
national
and international groups during the past academic year.
The KVHS
boys' team has six grade 12 and six grade 11 players.
They
have a lot of depth and their tournament victories in the Saint
John
High and Three Oaks High school tournaments were a result of very
strong
contributions by the grade 11 players. Josh Graham and Adam Creaghan were
members of the NB Canada
Games
team. They have been joined by two football all-stars, Jamie
Barefoot
and Colin Flynn-Breen to make a very athletic and hard working
combination.

Community Information
Newmarket is a town 45 minutes north of Toronto. It has a population just over
70,000 people. It continues to be one of the fastest growing areas in the G.T.A.
Sacred Heart celebrated its’ 25th anniversary in 2004. Its’ school
population is quickly approaching 1,500 students. The basketball program has
been quite successful in the past seven years with the introduction of house
leagues and rep systems into the community. The hard work from community and
school coaches has paid off in the last few years. The Junior Boys teams have
been to 3 straight York Region championship games with 2 victories. The Junior
Girls teams have been to 2 straight York Region championship games with 1
victory this past November. The Senior Boys qualified for AAA OFSAA last year,
the first time in school history. With 5 returning players and a good group of
juniors coming up we look to repeat the feat again this year.

Name: Ben Garvin Grade: 11
Last year Ben played on the Junior team which won the York Region Championship.
After playing for the Crusaders Ben went on to have successful seasons with the
Bathurst Jewish Community Centre and the Toronto Outlaws AAU team. He was also
a member of the Central East JDP for Ontario Basketball. This year he steps
into a starting role on the team and has been named co-captain. Ben is not only
a leader on the floor but off of it achieving a 90% average thus far in his
academic career.
Name: Dan Bannister Grade: 11
Last year Dan played on the Junior team which won the York
Region Championship. After Playing for the Crusaders Dan went on to have a
successful seasons with the York Avengers, Toronto Outlaws AAU team and Phase
One. This year he steps into a the starting point guard role and has been named
co-captain. Dan is not only a leader on the floor but off of it achieving a 90%
average thus far in his academic career.

Sussex Regional
High School has had a strong boy's basketball program.
Since
opening it's doors in 1979. In recent years, the Sonics have made
it to the Provincial finals in each of the last six seasons. The Sonics
made it
to the finals of the DTC last year and are looking to get back
into the
medals this year. The Sonics have picked up three rookies to
go with
the nine returning players from last season. This years team is
up-tempo, well-rounded and exciting to watch. Kennedy Coleman-Eustace
is
returning from playing for the Canada Games team this past summer and
has
showed great improvement in the first part of this season. Wes Michaud is
another returning senior who was selected to be a captain
this
season. Wes is a good ball handler and makes good decisions getting us started
in our offence.
