CAMP PHILOSOPHY
   
Under the theme, "Practice Makes Perfect", the camp will emphasize the basics of the game, including the following skills: ball handling, passing, receiving passes, lay-ups, squaring up, set shots, free throws, shooting mechanics, defensive stance, on-the-ball, defensive footwork, offensive/defensive rebounding, outlet pass, 1 on 1 play, post play, 3 on 3, give and go, pick and roll, power lay-ups, jump shooting, 2 on 1 situations, 3 on 2 situations, fast break, deny and jump to the ball, as well as other skills with the high school group.

OBJECTIVES
-- Teach the campers as many skills as they can readily perform during this short period of time.
-- Provide game situations and game experience for each camper during their basketball development.
 -- Give all campers an opportunity to interact with others, and to help build a stronger, positive self-esteem.
-- Develop a sense of fair play and sportsmanship in each camper.

BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE
-- A Camper of the Day will be chosen for each group based on effort, with prizes donated by Pizza Delight.
-- Each day session will see two hours of instruction and one hour of playing time.
-- Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt.
-- Each participant will receive a group session photograph to be picked up on Thursday.
-- University and high school coaches as well as student counselors from SRHS teams will provide the instruction.

Camp Coordinator
   
Spencer Jeffrey will coordinate the 23rd DTC camp. He is a Sonic graduate from 1991, which was the year the Sonics won both DTC tournament and AAA provincial championship at the Aitken Centre in Fredericton.
    Spencer played university basketball for UNB and was a co-captain during his playing years at St. Thomas University. He also played midget, juvenile and junior basketball with the BNB summer programs.
    His coaching has included roles as assistant coach with STU, three years with the high school program in Schefferville, Que., one year as an assistant with the SRHS varsity program, two years with the SRHS JV program and two years as a coach in the Sussex Minor puppy program.
    Spencer teaches Grade 9 physical education at SRHS.

Sessions
9 a.m. to noon:     Grades 3-5 girls at SES, Grades 6-8 boys at SMS
1:30-4:30 p.m.:     Grades 3-5 boys at SES, Grades 6-8 girls at SMS
6-8:30 p.m.:         Grades 9-12 girls at SMS, Grades 9-12 boys at SRHS
