TOWN CLASSIC
BOY’S
Etobicoke
Collegiate – logo
Ivan Andric is a
grade 12 student who has an excellent jump shot and a very smart
basketball IQ. He is co-captain of the team and is an excellent role
model. He plays guard and is a natural leader. He is looking to play
in the CIS next year. Filmon Tsada, a grade 12 student, has
explosive quickness from the point guard position. He can knock down
the jumper off of the dribble or beat you to the rack. He also hopes
to play in the CIS next year.
Jean de Brebeuf

The 2007-2008 juvenile team is
lead by two returning players, Simon Bouchard, a 6’5 forward and
current member of Quebec U-17 team and Charles-Alexandre Lacroix, a
6’6 center. The team has 3 other returning players who took part in
the 2007 edition of the DTC and 7 rookies, including 6’2 forward
Alexis Lemieux-Cardinal, who was part of Québec U-15 team which won
the national championship last summer. The players and coaches are
once more looking forward to taking part in the 2008 edition of the
Dairy Town Classic, a tournament that is head and shoulders above
everything organized in Québec.
Riverview Royals

The Royals have a
veteran team led by last year’s Eastern Conference player of the
year Ryan McCluskey. Also returning are veterans Alex MacLeod,
Jeremy Sollows, Xavier Ralbot Thiebaux and under NB under 16 team
members Anthony Sears and Anthony Pickard. The Royals feature an
intense running game and should be fun to watch.
St. Mary Rams

Our boys' program received a "bit of
a hit" for the 2007-8 season when 6'9" forward Mike Allison, a 3
year provincial team member, was invited to spend the year training
and competing with the new NEDA (National Elite Development Academy)
program. However, 6'1"
Guard Zac Angus has done an excellent job leading this young
Crusader team. Zac is
one of the smartest guards to play the game that St. Mary's has ever
seen. He can score in a
multitude of ways and has excellent court vision.
Sussex Sonics

The team has six
returning players and five rookies. All of the rookies are in at
least grade eleven and they have shown that they are learning
quickly what it takes to be successful at this level. Two players to
watch out for are seniors Ryan Oxford and Ryan Wells. Ryan Oxford is
an emotional leader on the team who is counted on to play
exceptional defense and rebound.
Ryan Wells is a gritty player who can control the pace of a
game and is tough at both ends of the court.
Woodstock Thunder

The Thunder are led by
point guard and co-captain Jake Taylor.
Taylor represented New Brunswick this past summer as a member
of the NB Under-17 Men Basketball Team.
Taylor is joined by five other players with provincial team
experience including grade eleven co-captains Joel Everett, who
joined Taylor on the NB Under-17 team, and Will Thornton as well as
grade ten players Scott Anderson, Jordan Irvine, and Ross Kinney.

GIRL’S
Bernice
MacNaughton – logo
This years team features 8 new players up from JV and only returns
three players from a year ago. All three are in Grade 12. Laura
Chapman, Laura Fowler ,and Lia St.Pierre all played on this summers
NB Provincial Under 17 team which competed in National Championships
in Vancouver. This years schedule features some impressive
tournaments including the Miramichi Classic, the Halifax Grammar
Classic, the Riverview Christmas Invitational, the Riverboat Classic
and looks forward to
their return to the
popular Dairy Town Classic in February.
Colonel Gray –

Gray will be looking towards two of its senior captains to provide
scoring and leadership during the tournament . Captain Carley LeFave,
one of the most dynamic scorers in coach Chris Annett’s 33 years
with the Colonels has had a rough season, going down in her second
game of the year and missing two and a half months of games. She
provides great presence and stability.
Point guard Carolyn Mckenna may be the smallest guard in the
Maritimes but few have bigger game or heart. Mckenna has been Grays
on court leader throughout this season. Lightning quick she keys the
fast break game as well as excels in running the half court game.
Halifax Grammar

The Grammar girls return eight players from last year's provincial
championship team, the first Division 1 banner in the school's
history. Grammar is led by reigning Metro league MVP Justine Colley,
and four other players who represented Nova Scotia at Nationals last
summer. Ellen Crosby and Alex McKenna joined Colley on the U-17
team, while Rachel
MacLean and Chelsea Whalen both played for the U-15 team.
Anne Kiberd also represented Nova Scotia on the U-16 team.
The team looks forward to every trip to Sussex, and hopes to
successfully defend the Dairy Town Classic championship.
Riverview – logo
Stephanie Clarke is a third year senior who will be counted on for
her overall team play as well as her leadership skills. She is the
captain of this year’s Royals team. Stephanie was the team MVP at
last year’s NBIAA Championship game and also gained a wealth of
experience playing for the New Brunswick Juvenile team at the
National Championships in Vancouver this past summer. Rebecca
Nuttall is a Grade 11 student in her third year with the RHS Varsity
Girls’ team. Rebecca has been involved with Basketball New Brunswick
as a member of the Provincial Midget team for 2 years as well as
playing on this summer’s Provincial Juvenile team. Rebecca is also
involved in the Basketball Canada Center of Performance program.
Sussex – logo
The team needs Gr. 12 point guard Carla Norrad to provide a strong
leadership role. She is one of the team co-captains. Carla’s role
includes strong defense and she has to be one of the teams leading
scorers along with bringing quickness and toughness to the team.
Co-captain Sam Dixon is looked upon to be one of the team’s leading
scorers. She shoots the ball really well and has good quickness to
get to the basket. She is also one of the team’s best rebounders.

The team this year features
three provincial team players in Jocelyn Clark gr. 12 - NB U17,
Lauren Moffatt gr. 11 - NB U16, and Samantha Wilson gr. 9 - NB U15
Developmental. The Thunder will be looking to use this tournament to
gain valuable experience in preparation for the South West AAA
Tournament in one week.
