GALE JEFFREY - PRESIDENT

On behalf of the Board of Directors I wish to Welcome each of you to the 21st Annual Dairy Town Classic Basketball Tournament.

WOW!  Where has the time gone?  It is hard to believe that a small idea some 21 years ago has lasted this long and evolved into such a great “Celebration of Basketball” for all levels.

Our two long-time Major Sponsors, Dairy Farmers of Canada and Mrs. Dunster’s, are joined this year by Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, New Brunswick Divisions.  Together, they make it possible to provide you with one of the best basketball tournaments in Eastern Canada. It is with this type of corporate support, along with all of our Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors, that we are able to provide the Community with a Tournament of this caliber.

This past June, the DTC Committee submitted my name to BNB for recognition.  Subsequently, in September I was presented with the Executive/Officials Award in recognition of my outstanding service to Basketball in New Brunswick. Thanks to the Committee and the members who put the submission together. As well, our Committee nominated Dairy Farmers of Canada in the corporate category, of the Compass Awards through Sport New Brunswick.  As a result, Dairy Farmers of Canada  were recognized for their efforts, and were presented with this award this past November.

Over the summer the DTC Committee provided a summer camp for 175 youngsters from grades 3 – 12, and supported 35 youngsters in going to other camps (BNB programs or University camps) with bursaries totaling nearly $3500.  At the SRHS graduation we presented three scholarships to graduates worth a total of $700. Tim McAleenan (Mount Allison) and Haley Doney (Saint Thomas) received scholarships for those who were going-on to try-out at the next level. They are now contributing members of their new teams. Additionally, Ashley Roulston received a Scholarship for her basketball efforts over the last six years, in addition to her other school and community activities.

At this year’s Tournament you will see the Dairy Dunkers Finals, mini games, middle school and junior varsity games, in the two days leading up to the tip-off of the 20th Dairy Town Classic basketball tournament.
In closing, please allow me to THANK all our sponsors, the staffs at the Middle and High Schools, and all our volunteers for their great efforts.  Together, they make this Tournament the success it has become, year after year. On behalf of the Committee, thanks to the fans and Best of Luck to all of the participants, and may this Tournament be one of the highlights of your High School basketball career.

Let’s have the Official Tip-Off so we can sit back and have three great days of basketball action.
