CAMP PHILOSOPHY:
The Dairy Town Classic Committee is pleased to announce
its 20th annual basketball camp. This year's camp is
being subsidized by the Dairy Town Classic Committee.
The camp is under the direction of Mr. Peter McAleenan,
under the theme, "Practice Makes Perfect". The
camp will emphasize the basics of the game, including
the following skills; ball handling, passing,
receiving passes, lay-ups, squaring up, set shots, free
throws, shooting mechanics, defensive stance,
on-the-ball, defensive footwork, offensive/defensive
rebounding, outlet pass, 1 on 1 play, post play, 3 on 3,
give and go, pick and roll, power lay-ups, jump
shooting, 2 on 1 situations, 3 on 2 situations, fast
break, deny and jump to the ball, as well as other
skills with the high school group.
The Objectives of the Camp Will Be To:
- Teach the campers as many
skills as they can readily perform during this short
period of time.
- Provide game situations and
game experience for each camper during their
basketball development.
- Give all campers an
opportunity to interact with others, and to help
build a stronger, positive self-esteem.
- Develop a sense of fair play
and sportsmanship in each camper.
Introducing Peter
McAleenan:
Peter is a native of McAdam who
started his basketball career as a ball boy with his
mothers teams. He progressed to play with the
University of New Brunswick Red Raiders and then moved
on to coach a number of District Championship Teams in
Ontario. He returned to his native province in
1975, arriving at Sussex Composite High School.

In his 17
year tenure at the helm of the Boys Sonic
Basketball program, McAleenan took his team to
the Provincial Finals on eight different
occasions and won Titles in 1982, 1984, 1988 and
1991. At the end of the 1988 season, Peter
was named Co-Coach of the Year in the NBIAA for
boys basketball. During his five seasons
as Coach of the Lady Sonics, they made a Final
Four appearance in 1995. Aitken Centre
Finalists in 1996, Regional Finalists in 1997,
and were "AA" Provincial Basketball Champions in
1998 and 1999. He has also coached Midget
Girls, Boys Middle School, SRHS, JV and now
assists the Girls Varsity Sonics.

Other Notables:
Recognized by BNB in 1991 with a
Service Award for his coaching prowess.
Recognized again by BNB in 2004
with a Lifetime coaching Award.
Peter also shares his knowledge
via coaching clinics and NCCP Level courses throughout
New Brunswick.
