GIRL’S

Bernice MacNaughton

This years team features 8 new players up from JV and only returns three players from a year ago. All three are in Grade 12. Laura Chapman, Laura Fowler ,and Lia St.Pierre all played on this summers NB Provincial Under 17 team which competed in National Championships in Vancouver. Colonel Gray

Gray will be looking towards two of  its senior captains to provide  scoring and leadership during the tournament . Captain Carley LeFave, one of the most dynamic scorers in coach Chris Annett’s 33 years with the Colonels has had a rough season, going down in her second game of the year and missing two and a half months of games. She provides great presence and stability.

Point guard Carolyn Mckenna may be the smallest guard in the Maritimes but few have bigger game or heart. Mckenna has been Grays on court leader throughout this season. Lightning quick she keys the fast break game as well as excels in running the half court game.

Halifax Grammar

The Grammar girls return eight players from last year's provincial championship team, the first Division 1 banner in the school's history. Grammar is led by reigning Metro league MVP Justine Colley, and four other players who represented Nova Scotia at Nationals last summer. Ellen Crosby and Alex McKenna joined Colley on the U-17 team, while Rachel  MacLean and Chelsea Whalen both played for the U-15 team.  Anne Kiberd also represented Nova Scotia on the U-16 team. The team looks forward to every trip to Sussex, and hopes to successfully defend the Dairy Town Classic championship.

Riverview

Stephanie Clarke is a third year senior who will be counted on for her overall team play as well as her leadership skills. She is the captain of this year’s Royals team. Stephanie was the team MVP at last year’s NBIAA Championship game and also gained a wealth of experience playing for the New Brunswick Juvenile team at the National Championships in Vancouver this past summer. Rebecca Nuttall is a Grade 11 student in her third year with the RHS Varsity Girls’ team. Rebecca has been involved with Basketball New Brunswick as a member of the Provincial Midget team for 2 years as well as playing on this summer’s Provincial Juvenile team. Rebecca is also involved in the Basketball Canada Center of Performance program.

Sussex

The team needs Gr. 12 point guard Carla Norrad to provide a strong leadership role. She is one of the team co-captains. Carla’s role includes strong defense and she has to be one of the teams leading scorers along with bringing quickness and toughness to the team. Co-captain Sam Dixon is looked upon to be one of the team’s leading scorers. She shoots the ball really well and has good quickness to get to the basket. She is also one of the team’s best rebounders.
