PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR AT THIS EDITION OF THE DAIRY TOWN CLASSIC

BOY’S

Etobicoke Collegiate

Ivan Andric is a grade 12 student who has an excellent jump shot and a very smart basketball IQ. He is co-captain of the team and is an excellent role model. He plays guard and is a natural leader. He is looking to play in the CIS next year. Filmon Tsada, a grade 12 student, has explosive quickness from the point guard position. He can knock down the jumper off of the dribble or beat you to the rack. He also hopes to play in the CIS next year.

Jean de Brebeuf

The 2007-2008 juvenile team is lead by two returning players, Simon Bouchard, a 6’5 forward and current member of Quebec U-17 team and Charles-Alexandre Lacroix, a 6’6 center. The team has 3 other returning players who took part in the 2007 edition of the DTC and 7 rookies, including 6’2 forward Alexis Lemieux-Cardinal, who was part of Québec U-15 team which won the national championship last summer. The players and coaches are once more looking forward to taking part in the 2008 edition of the Dairy Town Classic, a tournament that is head and shoulders above everything organized in Québec.

Riverview Royals

The Royals have a veteran team led by last year’s Eastern Conference player of the year Ryan McCluskey. Also returning are veterans Alex MacLeod, Jeremy Sollows, Xavier Ralbot Thiebaux and under NB under 16 team members Anthony Sears and Anthony Pickard. The Royals feature an intense running game and should be fun to watch.

St. Mary Rams

Our boys' program received a "bit of a hit" for the 2007-8 season when 6'9" forward Mike Allison, a 3 year provincial team member, was invited to spend the year training and competing with the new NEDA (National Elite Development Academy) program.  However, 6'1" Guard Zac Angus has done an excellent job leading this young Crusader team.  Zac is one of the smartest guards to play the game that St. Mary's has ever seen.  He can score in a multitude of ways and has excellent court vision.

Sussex Sonics

The team has six returning players and five rookies. All of the rookies are in at least grade eleven and they have shown that they are learning quickly what it takes to be successful at this level. Two players to watch out for are seniors Ryan Oxford and Ryan Wells. Ryan Oxford is an emotional leader on the team who is counted on to play exceptional defense and rebound.  Ryan Wells is a gritty player who can control the pace of a game and is tough at both ends of the court.

Woodstock Thunder

The Thunder are led by point guard and co-captain Jake Taylor.  Taylor represented New Brunswick this past summer as a member of the NB Under-17 Men Basketball Team.  Taylor is joined by five other players with provincial team experience including grade eleven co-captains Joel Everett, who joined Taylor on the NB Under-17 team, and Will Thornton as well as grade ten players Scott Anderson, Jordan Irvine, and Ross Kinney.
